The Achieve! series of science titles has been developed for teachers who require modified, curriculum-focused activities for secondary school students who struggle to read and comprehend regular classroom materials because of poor literacy skills.

Many of the pages in Chemistry for years 9–10 will assist teachers to develop lessons for the chemistry sub-strand in Science understanding for years 9 and 10.

Units of work cover a variety of topics including:

• atomic structure
• the periodic table
• compounds
• acids and bases
• rates of reactions
• and conservation of mass.

Students build their scientific vocabulary and understanding of key concepts. Work sheets involving practical activities also develop a student’s ability to plan and safely conduct experiments, and to record and analyse data. Practical activities are clearly marked with a work safely symbol.
