The ARK program was developed in response to the needs of Aboriginal students experiencing reading problems. The program has been extensively trialled and is now being used successfully with Aboriginal students, remedial reading students, students with English as a second language, students with learning difficulties and adults learning to read or improve their reading skills. 

The ARK was developed by teachers who experienced this problem everyday. They created a comprehensive resource that includes worksheets, games, teaching aids and assessment materials. 

The ARK provides placement tests for reading and spelling to quickly assess the students present abilities so that each student starts at the appropriate level and then progresses at their own pace. All of the reproducible pages of the ARK are carefully graded to encourage students success. The straightforward instructions mean that The ARK can be used by teachers, tutors, parents or community members.
